A Day in December is a large oil painting of a pheasant in a winter woodland. The painting is impressionistic, art nouveau and contemporary in style and was inspired by a winter walk I took in Friston Forest, East Sussex. The trees were almost leafless but still had a glow of golds and greens when the sun shone on them. The light beams through the trees were low and lit up the pinks and peach colours of the forest floor leaving the shadows purple and blue. The pheasant contains the colours around him and is very much a part of the landscape (Pheasants look too colourful for an English woodland and yet somehow, they can blend into the colours around them when they want to which fascinates me). This particular part of the forest is a favourite of mine as still retains a faintly ethereal and magical quality. Dedicated to everyone who works to keep the South Downs landscapes and wildlife unmolested. Available as wall art prints on canvas or on pearl or textured fine art paper. Click on wall preview (red button below) to see how it will look in a vast range of different sizes and with different wall colours and in different rooms (use drop down menus top left).
